The Bhutan International Marathon offers a unique and breathtaking course that takes runners through the picturesque Punakha Valley. The marathon route is approximately 50% on hard-pack dirt and 50% on pavement, providing a mix of rural and natural landscapes. The race starts at an elevation of 6700 feet and descends into the Punakha Valley, following the Mo Chhu (river) through rural areas, rainforests, and villages. Runners will pass by the Khamsum Yulley Temple, monasteries, rice paddies, and Chortens, offering stunning views of the Himalayas. The course includes a 300-foot long suspension bridge across the Pho Chhu, adding a thrilling element to the race. The finish line is at the picturesque Punakha Dzong.
